Søren Ulstrup’s Expertise Research at the MAESTRO facility at beamline 7 on the Advanced Light Source (ALS) for nano- and microARPES characterization of low-dimensional and quantum materials.Research focused on 2D materials, particularly the synthesis, electronic structure and ultrafast dynamics of monolayer MoS2.Villum Young Investigator, responsible for establishing a research group and a new facility for photoemission spectroscopy incorporating high energy, angular and spatial resolution into the measurement of novel materials.Project description: Experimental investigation of the electronic structure, many-body effects and ultrafast charge carrier dynamics in the two-dimensional crystal graphene. Techniques: High resolution angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and laser-based ultrafast time-resolved ARPES (TR-ARPES), dataacquisition and analysis with IGOR Pro, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). Main activities: Operating the SGM III beamline at the synchrotron radiation source ASTRID/ASTRID2 and the Aarhus scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) equipment for ultra high vacuum (UHV) based research on mainly graphene and topological insulators (Dirac Fermion systems). I have participated extensively in experiments involving intense laser sources at the Central Laser Facility, ARTEMIS lab, United Kingdom for TR-ARPES studies of 2D materials. I have also performed x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) experiments at Elettra, Sincrotrone Trieste, Italy. I have also taught undergraduate courses within the Aarhus University Physics education (Solid State Physics, Statistics and Dataanalysis, Numerical Physics, Modern Physics, Introductory Mechanics).Project title: "Surface modification of nanostructured surfaces for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) applications." Description: Engineering of oxide heterostructure interfaces using chemical routes with surfactants, spincoating and sintering processes. Fuel cell electrodes were fabricated. Techniques: Chemical sol-gel synthesis, spincoating, ceramic engineering, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction, rheometry, thermogravimetry (TG).
